More about the registration details near the end of this page, but first we want to let you know the the faculty has expanded since the conference was first announced. In addition to Jimmy Metts and Shelby Kennedy who were previously announced, Phillip White has signed on to facilitate the keynote workshop Saturday afternoon. They will be joined by music publishers Bobby Rymer and Ted Lowe, Sun Radio’s Roger Allen, KOOP Radio’s Ted Branson, publicist Cash Edwards, Atticus Records’ Rick Busby & Stephen Doster, music attorney John Asher and others. There will be more details on their bios and events when the schedule is published Sunday night, but the weekend will definitely be packed with activity. For now, review the bios below for both Jimmy Metts and Shelby Kennedy who, along with Phillip White and Ted Lowe are making their first appearances as ASG faculty members. These two have impressive music industry resumes and we look forward to the unique experience and wisdom they will bring to the conference.
Jimmy Metts has worked in Nashville since the mid-1980s. He started out at Famous Music securing cuts for his songwriters from some of the top artists in Nashville, including Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Patty Loveless and Willie Nelson. He has worked with some of the top writers and artists in the world, including Toby Keith, Mark Chesnutt and Diamond Rio, among many others. Jimmy currently works as the General Manager for Reba McEntire’s Starstruck Writers Group. To read Jimmy’s complete bio, go here.
Shelby Kennedy will also be making his first appearance on the ASG faculty. Shelby is a music industry veteran who has done it all from writing songs to producing, singing background vocals and working in various executive positions at ASCAP, BMI and NSAI. He also teaches Entertainment & Music Business at Belmont University in Nashville. He currently serves as the Vice President, Entertainment Relations for TuneCore, one of the premier online music business sites for independent artists. To read Shelby’s impressive and complete bio, go here.
Together with the remaining faculty members they will be facilitating the 3-day conference schedule. Lending their invaluable experience and expertise to ASG members, they will help keep us in touch with the dynamic opportunities, evolving landscape and creative potential facing songwriters in the burgeoning music business of the early 21st century.
The full registration price of $175 is now in effect through the 3-day conference and is an absolute bargain for songwriters looking to make new or continue developing professional music business contacts in both Nashville and Austin. This is a bargain that will pay dividends for everyone in attendance some time to come. If you are serious about both the creative craft and commercial potential of your songwriting, desire for your songs to be heard by and receive feedback from serious industry professionals, then this 3-day songwriter conference may be the best thing you do for your creative life all summer long. But hurry, space is limited at The Mockingbird Cafe and while we want to accommodate everyone, we could potentially reach our space limit. Don’t be disappointed you waited too long.
