It, along with the “Monday Night Live” open mic are the weekly “bread and butter” events for ASG songwriters.
At The Song Doctor Sessions, songwriters bringing in songs they are working on to share with the group and to receive constructive feedback from the Song Doctor and other songwriters in attendance. The feedback is intended to not only improve specific songs, but also to spotlight strategies that will enhance the crafting of songs in the future.
Over the course of one evening, the group will hear anywhere from 10-15 songs at various stages of development and each week’s discussion touches on so many aspects of songwriting that every session is like attending a master’s class in a little over two hours.
Everyone is welcome to attend and The Song Doctor Sessions are free. If you wish to share one of your songs, bring along about a dozen or more copies of your lyric sheets to pass around to the group. You may also bring a guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele or other instrument to accompany yourself, sing a cappella, or bring a CD to pop in the player.
Even if you do not have a song to share on a given week, you are still welcome to attend, so don’t let that stop you from getting involved. Besides, the comfort food at Threadgill’s restaurant is world-renowned.
